Dongman Lee is a distinguished KEPCO professor and a pioneering researcher in intelligent edge computing and distributed systems, whose influential work has helped shape the evolution of mobile cloud computing and IoT-driven urban environments. As early as 2010, his seminal paper introduced the concept of a virtual cloud computing provider for mobile devices, laying foundational work for what is now known as mobile edge and fog computing. His lab continues to lead research in autonomous mobility, urban computing, and AI-integrated distributed infrastructures.
Dongman Lee received his BS in Computer Engineering from Seoul National University in 1982, followed by his MS and Ph.D. in Computer Science from KAIST in 1984 and 1987. His career includes a decade as a Senior Researcher at Hewlett-Packard (1988–1997), and subsequent academic leadership roles at KAIST, where he has served as Professor of Computer Science since 2003. He has held multiple deanships, including Dean of the College of Engineering (2021–2023) and Provost and Executive Vice President ofAcademic Affairs (2023–2024). Since 2019, he has also served as the ICT Endowed Chair Professor at KAIST (KEPCO Chair Professor since March 2025).
Through his career, Dongman Lee has continually bridged visionary research with real-world innovation, helping to define the trajectory of future internet architectures, edge intelligence, and urban tech ecosystems in Korea and globally.
